Swedish Massage
WHAT IS SWEDISH MASSAGE?
Swedish massage focuses on the muscles. It’s a classic treatment designed to ease tension, loosen tight areas and help the body relax.
Using a combination of flowing strokes and more focused work where it’s needed, the treatment helps improve circulation and reduce the build-up of everyday muscle tension. Many people find it particularly helpful for tight shoulders, stiff backs, or legs that feel heavy after long days on their feet.
Pressure is always adjusted to suit you. Some people prefer a lighter, relaxing massage, while others benefit from deeper work on areas that feel overworked.
While Swedish massage works with the muscles, Manual Lymphatic Drainage focuses on the body’s fluid system. Together, they offer two different ways of helping the body feel lighter, looser and more balanced.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Your first appointment will begin with a short consultation so we can talk through any areas of tension, injuries or preferences around pressure.
For most treatments you will be asked to undress to your underwear and lie on the treatment couch. You will always be covered with towels or blankets, with only the area being worked on uncovered at any time. If you feel more comfortable keeping certain clothing on, that is absolutely fine and we can work around it.
Massage oil is used to allow smooth, controlled movements over the muscles. The treatment usually begins gently to warm the muscles before working more specifically on areas that feel tight or uncomfortable.
Sessions are designed to feel unhurried and tailored to you, whether you are looking for a deeply relaxing massage or more focused work on problem areas. I use lavender infused grapeseed oil as my carrier, but please let me know in advance if you have any allergies and I’ll happily use an alternative.
